Blue Communion

A Multi-Sensory Installation

2013

Blue Communion is an exploration into synesthesia and Kandinsky’s color theory as described in his seminal work, Concerning the Spiritual in Art. Drawing on Kandinsky’s writing and ideas, the experience of the color blue was translated into a Monastic chant, a scent and a flavor. Kandinsky’s description of the color blue reveals the strong influence of his Russian Orthodox upbringing. In Blue Communion, visitors are invited to take part in a small ceremony, experiencing the taste, sound, and smell of color.
